The Vario Chinook fuselage comes in 3 sections, front and rear ends and the center section which is basically a tube, two dummy turbines are also included. The scale is about 1:9.7 although the scale differs slightly between the length and height, as I found out when calculating the mast height!
The center section does not lend itself to easy access to the mechanics, I had decided to use a Zenoah G230rc petrol engine that is quite heavy and therefore had to be mounted in the center. Access just from each end was not an option so a removable section had to be cut between the two towers. There is very little re-enforcement around this area so a light wooden frame had to be made to stiffen up the main fuselage and the removable cover section.
There was no need to have full access to the rear section as the mechanics would now split into two sections and be easily removed through the center for maintanence, the only access required was around the swashplate and push rods so I permanently attached the rear section to the main body and just made the top / rear section of the mast removable.
The profile of the front nose section is very basic, I have re-modeled that section in balsa wood with the intention of producing a new fibre glass mould from it and including the window cutouts. At the moment the windows are just painted in as a representation.
